Privacy Policy
Short version
Ani4Ki processes video frames entirely on your device. We do not collect your browsing history, your viewing habits, or any video content, and none of it is ever sent anywhere.
That is true on every tier. Nothing about what you watch is ever sent to us, whether you paid or not.
A Plus licence adds exactly one thing: the extension checks that your licence is valid, by sending the licence key and nothing else. It never sends the page you are on, the video, or anything about your viewing. The full detail is in Licence validation below.
What the extension does locally
- Reads video pixels via the browser's WebGL API to apply upscaling and color-grading shaders.
- Saves your preferences (selected preset, slider values, profiles) to the browser's local
chrome.storage.local. This data never leaves your device. - Modifies HTTP response headers on media resources via the Chrome
declarativeNetRequestAPI, to enable WebGL access to cross-origin video. No network traffic is routed through RealityOverlay — all modification is performed locally by your browser.
What we do not do
- We do not track your browsing history.
- We do not collect analytics, telemetry, or usage data.
- We do not read or transmit video content, audio, subtitles, or metadata.
- We do not record which sites you visit or what you watch. The licence check described below does not include the page you are on.
- We do not sell data, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
- We do not use cookies on this website at all, and it loads no third-party resources — fonts and every other asset are served from our own domain, so no other company sees that you visited.
Licence validation
A licence has to be checkable, or it isn't a licence. This is the smallest check we could build that still works — it confirms your key is valid and does nothing else. It is also what lets your licence follow you to a new machine, and what makes a cancellation or refund take effect rather than being ignored.
- When: once when you activate a key, and roughly every 12 hours thereafter while the browser is running, to confirm the licence is still active.
- What is sent: your licence key and a randomly generated installation identifier. Nothing else — no page URL, no video, no title, no browsing data.
- What we store: your licence key, that installation identifier, your purchase email address (received from our payment provider so we can deliver and support the licence), and activation/validation timestamps.
- Server logs: the check reaches a server, so Cloudflare sees the connection metadata every web request carries, including an IP address. That is standard for any internet service and we do not read, retain or analyse it to build a picture of you.
- If the check fails because you are offline, the extension keeps working. It does not phone home for any other reason.
What is not in that list matters more than what is: no page addresses, no video content, no titles, no viewing history, no analytics, no profile. Buying a licence does not start any of that — the only thing a Plus install sends that a free install doesn't is the licence key you paid for.
Legal basis and retention
We process the licence data above to perform our contract with you — delivering and maintaining the licence you purchased (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)) — and to meet accounting obligations (Article 6(1)(c)).
Licence records are kept for as long as the licence is active, and afterwards for as long as we are required to retain transaction records under Estonian accounting law (currently seven years). Installation identifiers and validation timestamps are deleted when a licence is deleted or expires.
Payments
When you purchase a Plus licence, payment is processed by Lemon Squeezy, who acts as the merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects the billing information necessary to complete the transaction (name, email, billing address, payment method) under their own privacy policy. RealityOverlay receives only a licence key identifier and the customer email address in order to deliver your licence.
Distribution platforms
Installs of Ani4Ki are distributed through the Chrome Web Store, which collects install metrics visible only to Google and (in aggregate) to RealityOverlay as the publisher. Future platforms (Steam, Epic Fab) operate under their own respective privacy policies.
Your rights (GDPR)
The only personal data we ever hold is the licence record described under Licence validation — a key, an installation identifier, your purchase email and some timestamps. If you have never bought a licence there is no record at all. Either way you have the right to:
- request a copy of it (access) and receive it in a portable format;
- have it corrected if it is wrong (rectification);
- have it erased, subject to the accounting retention period above;
- restrict or object to how we process it.
To exercise any of these, email privacy@realityoverlay.studio. We will respond within one month.
Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record and an independent controller for the billing data it collects — for that data, contact them directly.
If you believe we have handled your data improperly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon), or with the supervisory authority in your own country of residence.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially (for example, if a future feature collects data), we will update this page and note the change at the top. Continued use of the software indicates acceptance of the current policy.
Who we are
The data controller is RealityOverlay OÜ, a company registered in Estonia.
